12 Day Miracle! (Week 1)

IMG_5654My purpose as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is….to invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end.

It’s crazy how much I feel like I’ve grown the last week!  The MTC (Missionary Training Center) is great!  I just love being a missionary!  At first it was super weird when people started calling me Sister Meza but I have learned to love it!

My companion’s name is Sister Buhler (as in Ferris Bueller) and she is super knowledgable about the gospel and the scriptures!  We were both made sister missionary training leaders our first week to help this week’s newbies transition into MTC life.  Even though I’ve only been here 9 days, it’s felt like forever!

My district is AMAZING!  These are the people I basically see all day every day!  Five of us are going to the California Riverside Mission!  We are all super different, but we’ve gotten to be really close!  I have come to know a lot about each of them and I consider them all really close friends.  The Lord definitely put us together for a reason.

The MTC isn’t what I had expected at all!  I thought they would just teach us a ton of things about the gospel but it’s mostly just self teaching and learning from other people.  What they do teach us is how to become better teachers and it’s all focused around our missionary purpose.  The reason for the title of this post is “12 Day Miracle” because I’m only here for 12 days!!!!  I’m super grateful for that because some people who are learning a language like Japanese or Finnish stay here for nine weeks!  There are people from all over the world here and going to some pretty crazy places!

I’ve had the chance to run into so many people here!  From BYUI and even my hometown, which has been a tender mercy from the Lord.  I have seen so many blessings follow my decision to go on a mission and it brings me such joy!  Things haven’t alway been easy, and I know they’re going to continue to get harder, but I just know that the Lord is on my side!

Tuesday we got to hear from an apostle, Elder Holland!  It was so inspiring and you could probably watch it and see me in the choir!….or at least the top of my head.  haha!

I have come to love reading the Book of Mormon with purpose every day!  My favorite chapter is Alma 32 :).  If you don’t have a Book of Mormon, you can download it for free in the app store!

If anyone wants a letter, email me your address!  My email address is samantha.meza@myldsmail.net

Love and miss you all!
