Wow, it is already the last week in my 6th transfer! I have officially spent half my mission so far with Sister Blanchard and it has been so great!
The weather out here has been pretty bipolar! It’s either sunny and nice, or foggy, windy, rainy and cold! It tends to keep us on our toes. I thought the bad weather would help us get into people’s homes, but it doesn’t. Haha. We even had a trailer park-wide power outage for a couple of hours!
This week was filled with following the spirit! We had a couple of experiences where the spirit helped keep us out of trouble. We spent some time this week finding people on the Branch list we didn’t know. We were looking for this man, with a name that could only be out of a hobbit movie. 🙂 We were going down this dirt road, which felt like the middle of nowhere, when all of a sudden this nice paved road appeared. It ended up leading to this huge gate that just happened to be open. We had a strong feeling to turn around and not enter. That ended up being the entrance to the Soboba Indian Reservation where they don’t take kindly to outsiders. Out of my 6 months of being in this area, I had no idea it was there. There was another time we were looking for this lady, when we came across this trailer with her same address. There was a gate there but it was only partially covering the entrance. The same thing happened where we felt like we shouldn’t pursue it and it turns out that a single man lives there who is an alcoholic. There was a another entrance to the property that we were looking for.
A brighter experience we had was when we had exhausted everyone on our list and had a prompting to stop by an active families home to try and get some referrals. It had kind of been a tough day, and on the way there I had a feeling that there were going to be home made cookies there and I told Sister Blanchard. Low and behold there were fresh baked cookies when we got there. The Holy Ghost has a good sense of humor! 🙂
We are not teaching Rudy anymore. 😦 For the third week in a row he has told us that he was coming on Sunday and doesn’t show. #sadday.
This past week as church was crazy! We went to the Anza Branch. We were thinking “okay, we probably will just have our normal meeting for once”, but we were wrong! We ended up being asked to teach the youth Sunday School, along with gospel principles. We somewhat winged a lesson about the creation and the Holy Ghost. It ended up not being so bad. The third hour of church was combined with everyone except the primary children. It was on the new youth theme for the year which is 2 Nephi 31:20 “Wherefore, ye must press forward with a steadfastness in Christ, having a perfect brightness of hope, and a love of God and of all men. Wherefore, if ye shall press forward, feasting upon the word of Christ, and endure to the end, behold, thus saith the Father: Ye shall have eternal life.” We were asked to give a talk on pressing forward to everyone right before it started! Hahaha we, of course, said okay and it ended up being pretty good! Well, at least I hope it was. 🙂
Keep pressing forward my friends! The church is true!
Love, Sister Meza
